If you've found your way here, you may already know that my name is Bill and I enjoy writing songs about God. If you did not know that, well now you do. I hope to be faithful with the songs I write. I'm not sure I know how to do that, but I think this website is a start. It contains the lyrics, chord charts, mp3's, even the stories behind the songs. And it is all free to you. So look around. Enjoy. And thanks for stopping by.

Be Still and Know

download chord chart // download mp3

(verse)
I will be still
and know that You are God (repeat)

(chorus)
You are God...You know my longings deep within
You are God...You have the whole world in Your hands
You are God...Your whisper is worth my soul's waiting

So I will be still and know You are God

(Recorded May 2008 at Crossings in Knoxville, TN)
-------------------------------------------------------

"Be Still and Know" is actually a fairly personal song for me. I wrote it a couple of years ago while driving in the rain. I was headed toward Nashville to pick up 1,000 copies my first CD, Majesty and Meekness. As the rain beat against the windshield, a million and one thoughts were running through my head; the most prominent being, "Will anyone care?"

I knew that in a matter of hours I would be back on I-40, driving home in a car filled with boxes and boxes of CDs; CDs that I had spend thousands of dollars and months of my time producing; CDs that I had no guarantee any one would give a rats behind about.

I was anxious. I was excited. I was hopeful. And I was scared out of mind.

In that moment, I was reminded of the story of Elijah and God's "gentle whisper". I began singing quietly to myself, "I will be still and know that You are God. You know my longings deep within and You have the whole world in Your hands. I will be still and know that You are God." Within just a few minutes, I had written this entire simple little song...all while driving in the rain.
